What does regular household help cost in 2026?

Household help in 2026 costs on average € 17 to € 25 per hour. A one-off deep clean costs € 120 to € 300 and an end-of-tenancy clean when moving € 150 to € 400. Household support for seniors runs € 18 to € 26 per hour. If you hire a cleaning company, ask whether the quoted rate includes or excludes VAT.

Prices updated: August 2026

What determines the price?

  • Hours per visit: more floor area, more rooms and more stairs simply take more time
  • Frequency: a fixed day weekly or fortnightly usually sits below the hourly rate of a one-off visit
  • Who you hire: a self-employed cleaner agrees an hourly rate, a cleaning company adds VAT and overhead
  • Extra tasks: ironing, interior windows or cleaning inside cupboards take separate time and belong in a separate agreement
  • Region: Randstad rates run 10-20% higher

Frequently asked questions

What does household help cost?

Expect € 17 to € 25 per hour for regular help. A one-off deep clean costs € 120 to € 300, an end-of-tenancy clean € 150 to € 400 and household support for seniors € 18 to € 26 per hour. The size of your home, the hours per visit and the region decide where you land in those ranges.

Is a request really free and without obligation?

Yes. Submitting a request costs nothing and commits you to nothing. You receive up to 3 responses and choose yourself — or choose no one, that is fine too. The hourly rate, the day and the tasks are agreed directly with the cleaner or the company.

How fast will I get a response?

Cleaners and cleaning companies in your region respond as soon as possible with a rate and a proposed day. For a regular weekly slot the start date depends on their route: sometimes there is space right away, sometimes only in a few weeks.

Are the cleaners and companies vetted?

On joining, we check the Chamber of Commerce registration and ask for proof of business liability insurance. Complaints factor into matching: after repeated complaints a company is removed from the platform. What a cleaner does in your home is something you agree together — we are not a party to that.

What happens to my data?

Your details are shared only with the (up to 3) cleaners or companies matched to your request. We never resell your data and automatically delete requests after the legal retention period. See our privacy policy.

Are you an agency or the cleaner's employer?

No. We put your request in front of cleaners and cleaning companies in your region — nothing more. Agreements about hours, rate, tasks, holidays and notice are made directly with the cleaner or the company. Companies that have joined arrange their own staff.

What is the Dutch 'dienstverlening aan huis' arrangement?

When a private individual hires someone for household work in and around the home on a limited number of days per week, that falls under the Dutch Regeling dienstverlening aan huis. In that situation the customer and the cleaner make their arrangements between themselves, and obligations apply to the customer too — among them the minimum wage and continued pay during holidays and illness. We are not a party to that agreement and give no advice on it: the current conditions are on rijksoverheid.nl.

How often does a cleaner usually come?

Weekly or fortnightly are the common rhythms. Weekly suits a larger household, pets or a busy family; fortnightly is often enough for a small household or a flat. In doubt: start fortnightly and step it up if you notice things falling behind.

Do I need to be home when the cleaner comes?

Not necessarily. Many people arrange a key or a key safe after a few visits. For the first visit and the introduction it helps to be there: you walk through the house together and agree which tasks are included and what you would rather do yourself.

Who provides the cleaning products and equipment?

In most households the cleaner works with the products and vacuum already there — that saves carrying and you decide what is used in your home. If you would rather the cleaner or company brings their own, state that in your request; it may affect the rate.

What if the cleaner is ill or on holiday?

A cleaning company usually arranges cover for illness or holidays; with a self-employed cleaner the visit is cancelled or moved. Ask about this before you start, because it is one of the biggest differences between a company and a self-employed cleaner — and agree at the same time how you cancel when it does not suit you.

Do you also do office or business cleaning?

No. This site is about private households. For an office, business premises or a VvE stairwell, go to schoonmaakbedrijf-direct.nl. Windows on the outside are a window cleaner's job (glazenwasser-direct.nl); interior windows can be included here as part of a deep clean or a handover clean.

Can I request help for my parents?

Yes. Enter your own contact details and state who the help is for and at which address. Note the distinction: household work is arranged privately here, while personal care and nursing belong to healthcare. Where there is a municipal (Wmo) allocation or a personal budget, that route runs via the municipality or the health insurer.
