What does household help cost in 2026?
All the guide prices in one place: per hour, per deep clean and per handover — plus the five factors that decide where you land.
Regular household help in 2026 costs on average € 17 to € 25 per hour. Note what that figure is: a rate per hour worked, not a price per visit. What you pay per visit therefore depends on the hours you agree — for a flat three hours is often enough, while a family home over several floors runs to five hours or more.
One-off work is priced differently: there you agree a total amount for the job. A deep clean — inside cupboards, behind the appliances, limescale in the bathroom — costs € 120 to € 300. An end-of-tenancy clean runs € 150 to € 400, depending on the size of the home and whether it is already empty. For household support for seniors the rate is € 18 to € 26 per hour: slightly higher, because the work happens at a calmer pace and more in consultation.
Five factors decide where you land in those ranges. One: the hours per visit — more floor area, more rooms and more stairs simply take more time. Two: frequency, because a fixed day weekly or fortnightly sits below the hourly rate of a one-off visit. Three: who you hire, because a self-employed cleaner agrees an hourly rate while a cleaning company adds VAT and overhead on top. Four: extra tasks such as ironing, interior windows or cleaning inside cupboards, which take separate time. And five: the region — Randstad rates run 10-20% higher.
Two things to ask before you say yes. Does the quoted rate include or exclude VAT? And what happens during illness or holidays: does the other party arrange cover, or is the visit simply dropped? Set the answer and the quote against the price index — within a minute you will know whether the amount fits the market.
